Development of guidelines for the monitoring of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in South Africa (June 2009)

ZES was appointed by the National Department of Health (NDoH) in April 2009 to develop Guidelines for Monitoring Indoor Air Quality in South Africa.  The project partners include ZES and Air Quality Consultants (AQC) (UK).

The initial meeting on the project will be held on 18 May 2009 to ratify the project plan and sign the service level agreement (SLA).  This project will span a period of ten months and encompasses seven phases.  These are outlined below:

Phase 1    •    Identify critical parameters to be included in the study
Phase 2    •    Air quality standards for the parameters selected
Phase 3    •    Identify suitable monitoring techniques
Phase 4    •    Consultation with relevant stakeholders
Phase 5    •    Development of draft guideline document
Phase 6    •    Consultative workshops
Phase 7    •    Development of final guideline document

The ZES and AQC teams are looking forward to the challenge of developing these guidelines and will draw on best practice in the field to develop a set of local guidelines.

The team includes:

ZES: Mrs Venetia Mitchell (Project Manager); Ms Dudu Mjoli; Ms Philisiwe Buthelezi and Ms Cassandra Abboy
AQC: Mr Steve Moorcroft and Prof Duncan Laxen
